Creating and producing your site's template is a large part of your site creation process. What is a Template?

A template is used to apply the design that will be used throughout your web site. It provides consistency and allows the you to make changes to the site easily through custom style sheets. A template normally consists of a header graphic, navigation bar and footer. These are the elements that remain consistent over multiple pages. The, center, content area within the template is left blank for you to add information on a page by page basis.

Pre Made E-Commerce Templates

An E-Commerce Template is a template made to work within the SearchFit control panel and site management system. Your site can use multiple templates because you are able to specify what template that you would like to use per page. This allows you the flexibility to have different banners, or a completely different look for the different areas of your site. E-commerce templates can contain everything that you would normally make a template from (HTML, Flash, Javascript, etc.) plus custom SearchFit Keywords. SearchFit keywords are inserted into these templates to tell SearchFit where to automatically insert various elements around your page including: search functions, metatags, navigation, the main content of your page, etc. SearchFit keywords decrease the time it takes to create and maintain your site. SearchFit templates are fully customizable and can be assigned on a per page basis.

Custom Made E-Commerce Templates

If you already have a template design you would like to use on your SearchFit site, that template can be converted into a SearchFit template. This requires knowledge of HTML and the use of SearchFit.

You can convert your own website template to a SearchFit template using these steps:

1. For your fist SearchFit e-commerce template, it's recommended that you create your template in standard HTML as you normally would, then make the following changes. All javascript, flash and images should be kept in a folder directly inside the root called "images_templ".
2. Replace parts of your HTML with SearchFit keywords. These keywords insert the correct content on a per page basis. For example, there is a SearchFit keyword that should replace your "head" tags and head content. By doing so, the correct head content, including title, metatags, style sheet references, etc. will be automatically added to every page. Every keyword that you can use on your template is listed on the Main Template screen within the SearchFit Control Panel.
3. Use your SearchFit control panel to upload all your image, Flash and Javascript files (Flash and Javascript files must be zipped individually before uploading).
